A Quail Life

1) Jaime Ibarra (www.ibarraphoto.com)

I’m a big fan of the colors in this photo.  The wall is a nice olive color and the lighting is good.  I also want to archive this because I’ve been wanting to shoot with the same sort of cloth for awhile now.  I have an entire closet filled with different colors of that see through, veil-like cloth, it’s about time I put them to use.

2) Muse, model (www.imageofmuse.com)

There’s no credit on the image, so I don’t know who the photographer, nevertheless this is some nice work.  Good color choice for the wig, I love white on white.  The lighting isn’t harsh so there is still information in the skin which is just beautiful.  The image is also really crisp, just a good portrait altogether.

3) Erhansasmaz (http://erhansasmaz.deviantart.com/)

Not sure what the photographer’s real name is, it wasn’t on deviantart.  Cool photo of a cool location.  Love the symmetry in this shot as well as the contrast of black and white, though I wonder what the colors are like in the original photo.  What a cool looking church, I’d like to travel and just take photos of amazing places like this.

4) Lukune (http://miss-lakune.deviantart.com/)

While I don’t find this image particularly interesting, the facial make-up is down very well and I like it a lot.  I’d like to experiment more with make-up myself.  I do like that the background is plain black and matches her eyes/the make-up.

5) John De Bord (jdebordphoto.com)

I’m not usually a big fan of animal photography, but this shot is pretty solid.  I like that he caught the bird with its mouth open and the background color is lovely.  He’s lucky that the bird and the plant that it is perching on happen to look cool.

1) Andrei (Website: http://vishstudio.deviantart.com/)

The model has an incredibly interesting body for this type of photography and the lighting simply complements it.  The veins and folds look strong and beautiful.  I love the copper tone of the whole image.  The entire image has a nice strength to it.  Great photograph of a great subject.

2) Alexander Pompa (Website: http://alexanderpompa.deviantart.com/)

I’m generally a big fan of portraits and cool make-up.  I really like the colors in this image as well as the incredibly clear focus on the face.  The furry hood does wonders for the lighting.  Overall, well executed facial close-up.

3) Drew Hopper (Website: http://www.drewhopperphotography.com/)

I wish I knew where this was because this is an astounding location.  The light painting is incredible and precise and must’ve taken some real talent to draw.  I also like the symmetry of the image.  I actually kind of wish that the person were not in it and that the light in the tunnel spoke for itself.

The Cigarette Duet- Princess Chelsea

Long intro, but bear with it.  This song is so weird and so brilliant.  Plus it’s a comment on smoking but with the interesting relationship twist.

I’m Good, I’m Gone - Lykke Li

This is by far my favorite music video right now from one of my all time favorite artists.  It starts weird and just gets weirder…and it works.

1) Mick Waghorne (Website:  http://mickwag.deviantart.com/)

This photo just encourages my obsession with the human body.  The toning is amazing in this shot and the sepia color just enhances the photo.  I love all the shadows and how the skin looks textured.

2) Sebastien Millot (Website:  www.flickr.com/photos/sebastienmillot/ )

This photo is from a series called “Encapsuled,” in which people appear to be trapped in different clear containers.  Cool idea, plus the colors are really vibrant.

3) Chertkova Svetlana (Website:  kcherty.livejournal.com)

This is a beautiful photograph.  I love the patterns in the sand and how the sand is actually a really nice tan color.  I kind of want to steal this patterns in the sand idea.

4) Selim Selimoglu (Website:  selimselimoglu.daportfolio.com/)

I’ve been really into black and white symmetry lately.  I like how pure the white is in this photo and the isolated tree.  Seems surreal yet very real at the same time.

5) Bogdan Lucaci (Website:  http://me-inside515.deviantart.com/)

Well, I’m a girl and cute photographs make me melt a bit inside.  This photo is adorable, though it bothers me that their shoes are cut off.

6) Agustin Olaneta (Website:  www.flickr.com/photos/60135911@N04/)

This photo also follows my symmetry mood.  Plus, what a cool building and the lighting is pretty sweet.

Today in my Development of Body and Mind class, we had a lecture on synesthesia, a condition in the brain in which one sensory stimulus causes the perception of an additional sensory stimulus.  For example, someone with synesthesia may correlate letters with different colors.  The lecture was really interesting and when I got back to my dorm I decided to look around the internet for additional information.  If you’re interested in developmental phenomenon in the brain at all, you should definitely check this out.

Sleep, Dandy Warhols

Although far from professional, there are some pretty cool images in this video.  Makes me want to get off the computer and make my own short films.  Plus, the song is beautiful and puts me softly to sleep.  How fitting.

1) Aleksandra (Website: http://vk.com/id9776338)

Recently featured this artist (see the 30 photos below somewhere).  As consistent with her other photos, I love the weird lighting.  Somehow the awkward shadows only add to the photo.  I like how there’s a foggy covering over her neck and below.  At first glance you don’t really notice how little is visible because focus is drawn so clearly to her face.

2) Martin Stavars (Website: http://www.martinstavars.com/)

Will probably feature this photographer soon.  I’m not the biggest fan of landscape photography, but I think this guy does an impressive job.  Love the fog in this shot and the harsh black. Really just cool to look at.  Looking at his portfolio, this photo isn’t even close to being one of his better shots, so I think he deserves to get featured sometime.

3) Mercuro B Cotto (Website: http://mecurobcotto.com/)

I’m a sucker for nude black and white photography.  I just love the way that light hits skin.  This guy is a published photographer and has a really cool and diverse profile.  I suggest checking out his website if you’re looking into a professional career.  I will probably feature this guy as well in the future.

4) Inci Isler Gulenc (Website: http://www.incisler.com/)

Well, I don’t know Turkish, and I’m not entirely sure this is the person’s name.  For some reason Google hates me and won’t translate their webpage.  Anyway, she/he also has some really cool photos in their portfolio.  I like this particular shot because of the photographers orientation is inexact.  Plus the birds and the wind make for a cool shot.

5) Yuki Balou (Website: http://karakuji.deviantart.com/)

Balou basically finds really cool places and photographs them.  Reminds me of the recent field trip my photography class took to the local armory.  I love the textures in this particular photo.  The ceiling, walls, and floor all have different textures and it looks really cool.

6) Lana (Website: http://cvet04ek.deviantart.com/)

This person doesn’t have an actual website or name apparently, and I’m not a big fan of their portfolio, but I do like this shot.  I like the color pallet as well as the lighting.  I’m also a fan of the model’s posture and body language in this photo.

Daily Deviations

If you know me at all, you’ll know that I’m a deviantART whore.  I spend a good amount of time browsing photography and stuffing photos I like in various “favorites” folders.  I have folders for all of my favorite photographers, headshots, landscapes, animals, romance, human figure studies, etc.  Since I spend so much time on deviantART, I’ve decided to feature my favorite photos of the day on my tumblr.  Hope you enjoy.
